An Ekos poll shows that a majority of Canadians (59%) want pension benefits removed for all federal prisoners. One quarter of respondants say it should only be removed for those imprisoned for life. Only 17 percent of Canadians believe they should get the pensions in all circumstances. Our petition calls for an end to Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement for prisoners, though not the Canada Pension Plan since prisoners have directly paid into that plan.
Ontarions, Liberal supporters, and the university educated were the most likely to support pension benefits for prisoners. Yet even here, there was still tremendous support for benefits being denied in some or all circumstances.
Tip of the Hat to Derek Fildebrandt for finding this one.
